Roy is the owner of Long Beach Boat Captains and a U.S. Coast Guard-licensed 100-Ton Near Coastal Master Captain.
As a contributing editor for "Bay & Delta Yachtsman Magazine", he writes a monthly column entitled “Tales From the Wheelhouse,” covering all aspects of boating on San Francisco Bay and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
With more than 30 years of experience operating power and sailing vessels up to 110 feet, Roy is highly skilled in all vessel systems, including Volvo Penta IPS propulsion.
He has completed numerous long-distance deliveries, including:
- 2025 Azimut Magellano 25 Metri (82 ft) – Ensenada, Mexico to Seattle, WA
- Seatrek Custom 94 – Bellingham, WA to San Francisco Bay Area
- Sunseeker Manhattan 66 – Portland, OR to San Francisco, CA
- 2021 Absolute 47 Fly – La Paz, Mexico to Huntington Beach, CA (1,000 nm)
- Riviera 60 Sportfish – Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to San Diego, CA (1,100 nm)
- Grand Banks 49 – Bellingham, WA to San Francisco, CA
- 450 Express Bridge – Oxnard, CA to Monterey, CA
- 50 ft Hatteras Cockpit Cruiser – New Orleans, LA to St. Petersburg, FL (580 nm)
- 40 ft Islander Sailboat – Long Beach, CA to Sausalito, CA
- Hatteras 68 Cockpit Motor Yacht – San Diego, CA to Benicia, CA
…and many others.
Roy’s approach is meticulous: he inspects and double-checks the vessel, plans and double-checks the route, charts primary and alternate paths with safe-harbor waypoints, and reviews everything again while incorporating professional weather routing, real-time sea-state updates, and ongoing adjustments.
During deliveries, Captain Roy operates at speeds appropriate for current conditions and the vessel’s structural integrity, constantly balancing fuel efficiency with schedule requirements.
Above all, Roy is passionate about both sailing and powerboating. His mission—and that of Long Beach Boat Captains—is to deliver a professional, safe, and detail-oriented experience for every client, whether performing a vessel delivery or providing instruction, with the ultimate goal of earning repeat and referral business.

Tina is the kind of person who can't wait to share her passions for the things she loves. She fell in love with sailing and power boating years ago and cofounded Long Beach Boat Captains. Just like Captain Roy and Captain Darren, she knows the waters, she knows the vessels, and as part of your crew, she knows how to crew a boat helping to make your trip a spectacular success.
